Graduate Admissions
Biological Sciences
The department offers a M.S. and Ph.D. degree in both Biochemistry and Biological Sciences.

Biochemistry concentrates on the many disciplines intrinsic to Biochemistry and Molecular Biology.

Biological Sciences emphasizes modern interdisciplinary approaches to biology in areas such as bioinformatics, systematics, ecology, cell biology, and physiology; and also the traditional organism based approaches such as botany, microbiology and zoology.

For more information, contact the Department of Biological Sciences Office Graduate Program at (225)578-1556 or by e-mail.
Chemistry
The department offers a M.S. and Ph.D. degree in Chemistry. In general, students who have earned the equivalent of a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry are eligible to apply. However, students from the Republic of India and the People's Republic of China must have earned a Master's degree in Chemistry or an equivalent field.

You may view an outline of the Ph.D. Program, learn about financial assistance and course offerings, and read brief descriptions of the research interests of each graduate faculty member.

The focus areas of the research-active tenure-track faculty are as follows: Analytical, Macromolecular, Inorganic, Organic and Physical. A number of these faculty members have interdisciplinary interests in fields such as biophysical, bioorganic, bioinorganic, and organometallic chemistry. There is an active Macromolecular Studies Group that contains faculty from Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biochemistry and Physics.

For more information, contact the Department of Chemistry Graduate Program toll free at (866) 578-2436 or by e-mail.
Computer Science
The department offers a M.S. degree in Systems Science and a Ph.D. degree in Computer Science. The entrance requirement to the M.S. program of our department is a bachelor's degree in a systems-related area from an accredited college or university.

Gifted students who have not satisfied these requirements may be admitted to the program on probation provided that the deficiencies are successfully made up (usually by Pass/Fail) by the end of the first semester in the program. Such students might require more than the usual amount of time necessary to satisfy the degree requirements.

Master's Program
The curriculum provides for graduate study in such core topics as theory of computing, computer science principles, data management and software systems development, visualization and graphics, and high performance computing. In addition, the student may choose any systems-related area for specialization and application of the techniques from these core areas.

Doctoral Program
The curriculum provides for graduate study in several areas of computer science including algorithms, computer architecture, artificial intelligence, theoretical computer science, software engineering, information retrieval, security, grid computing, networks, database management, operating systems, high performance computing, robotics, scientific computation, programming languages, and compilers.

For more information, contact the Department of Computer Science Graduate Program at (225) 578-1495 or by e-mail.
Geology & Geophysics
The department offers a M.S. and Ph.D. degree in Geology. The Department of Geology and Geophysics at LSU offers an outstanding graduate program in the earth sciences.

Areas of specialization include biostratigraphy and paleontology, environmental geology, geochemistry, geophysics, hydrogeology, igneous petrology, metamorphic petrology, stratigraphy and sedimentology, and tectonics.

For more information, contact the Department of Geology & Geophysics Graduate Program at (225) 578-3353 or by e-mail.
Physics & Astronomy
The department offers a M.S. and Ph.D. degree in Physics. Areas of specialization include High Energy Physics, Space Science, Astronomy, Materials, Nuclear Physics, Solid State Physics, Medical Physics, Atomic Physics, Optics, General Relativity, and Astrophysics.

Applications for graduate study in the Deptartment of Physics and Astronomy at Louisiana State University should be submitted directly to the Department. For questions about the department's research programs, the graduate program, application process, or financial aid, contact:
