Majors in all five college departments are considered for the following scholarships
   
  Arthur R.Choppin Scholarship
 
A. R. Choppin was dean of the College of Chemistry and Physics from 1944 until 1968.He oversaw the transition from a strictly teaching college to one that also emphasized original scholarship. The scholarship award in his honor is awarded annually to a sophomore, a junior, and a senior.
 
A. R. Choppin American Legion Auxiliary Scholarship
  Dean A. R. Choppin had a close association with both the American Legion and Girls' State and Boys' State, and the Baton Rouge Legion Auxiliary created this scholarship in his honor. The award is given to an outstanding student who participated in Boys' State or Girls' State.

Established criteria states that this scholarship must be awarded to a student who attended the Louisiana Girl’s State or Boy’s State program. For this reason, it is necessary for a student to apply for this scholarship.

Student’s interested in applying should complete the application for scholarship and return it to the Dean’s Office, 388 Choppin Hall. This scholarship is awarded in early Fall, so applications must be received by then.Click here to access the application form.

   
  Johnny Dardenne, Sr. Texas Tiger Tournament Scholarship
 
The award is $800 per year, normally awarded to an upper class student. The Texas Tiger Golf Tournament, held annually in Houston, was conceived by Bill Tidwell (LSU Geology, '50).
   
  Tiger Athletic Foundation Scholarship
  The Tiger Athletic Foundation makes annual contributions to all the colleges at LSU. The College of Basic Sciences generally awards 4 -8 scholarships each year for their contribution.
   
Biological Science Majors
   
  Brandon J. Latiolais Memorial Scholarship
  This scholarship honors the memory of Brandon Joseph Latiolais, a former student in the Department of Biological Sciences. The scholarship is endowed by his family. The award is made annually to a senior in Biological Science who will be attending medical school. In addition to scholarship, community service and volunteer work are considered.
   
 
Virginia Rice Williams Scholarship
  This scholarship was established by the family and friends of Virginia Rice Williams to honor her memory. Professor Williams was an Alumni Professor in the former Department of Biochemistry and an internationally recognized researcher in enzymology. Her biography is included among the notable lives of Arkansas natives recognized in "Arkansas Biography" from the University of Arkansas Press. The award is made annually to a female biochemistry major.
   
 
Patrick F. Taylor Scholarships in Chemistry
  Available to chemistry and biochemistry majors. (See description under Chemistry)
   
Chemistry Majors
   
  King-Sollberger Scholarship
  The award is made annually to a freshman chemistry major who is a resident of Louisiana or Mississippi.
   
  W. W. Tison Memorial Scholarship
  Family members established the scholarship in honor of William White Tison, who was head of the Chemistry Department at Louisiana State Normal College (now Northwestern State), then president of that college. From 1934 to 1953 he was a professor in the Chemistry Department at LSU, where he did significant research on products of cotton seed cake. The award is given to 1- 2 students annually.
   
  Patrick F. Taylor Scholarships in Chemistry 
  The College makes recommendations to the Patrick F. Taylor Foundation, which selects awardees for five scholarships of $750 per semester. The scholarships are available to chemistry and biochemistry majors who have demonstrated financial need. If you are eligible for Pell or Stafford Loans, you may be eligible for the Taylor Scholarships. Complete the application form including page.2 on financial need and return it to 338 Choppin Hall. Computer Science Majors
   
 
Adrian Virginia Lazarus Memorial Scholarship
  The family and friends of Adrian Virginia Lazarus, a 1977 computer science graduate of LSU, established this scholarship in her honor. The award is given annually.
   
 
Andrea Kay Martin Memorial Scholarship
 
Colleagues, former students, and friends of Andrea Kay Martin, the former Instructional Coordinator for the Department of Computer Science, established this scholarship in her memory. The award is given each year. Service activities and financial need are considered in addition to scholarship.
   
  Chevron Scholarships in Computer Science 
  The Chevron Corporation funds scholarships for junior or senior computer science majors.
   
Geology Majors
   
  There are a large number of scholarships available through the Department of Geology and Geophysics. Apply directly to that department.
