Examples of ways the OMR can help

• Help link a particular research program to K-12 curriculum by targeting specific parts of the No Child Left Behind curriculum that would best be served by a specific research project (i.e., connection to state and national Science Standards).

• Help find an outreach that fits the researcher’s needs and personality while serving K-12 education’s needs.

• Help connecting teachers and LSU research faculty members, help advertise programs once funded, and help connecting schools with LSU research programs.

• Advise on new exhibit creation such as new displays for departments’ hall. Most LSU buildings could use modern displays on ongoing research. This would allow departments to share the research with incoming freshmen and help in recruiting efforts.

• Advise on the creation and publishing of outreach books (i.e., ISBN issues).

• Provide advice on interactive-program creation for informal education.

• Advise on the development of one-day campus events such as Museums Day or Ocean Commotion.

• Help foster collaboration between researchers and the LSU Museum community (i.e., LSU Museum of Natural Science, LSU Textile Museum, LSU Art Museum), to encourage the creation of informal outreach programs.
