The faculty of the five departments and the Museum of Natural Science are national and international leaders in their research fields and excel in educating tomorrow’s industry workforce, health professionals, researchers, educators, public servants and entrepreneurs. Among its faculty, the College has six Boyd Professors, the highest professorial rank awarded by the LSU Board of Supervisors, and 26 Fellows of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the world’s largest general scientific society.
Scientific discovery is a currency in the College, advancing humankind’s knowledge and providing the basis for economic development and outstanding educational offerings. The mission of the college is supported by numerous grants from foundations and agencies such as the National Science Foundation, the National Institutes of Health, the Department of Energy, NASA, the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, and the National Math and Science Initiative. Our students gain knowledge of the latest advances in math and science and are inspired to be creative, innovative, and interdisciplinary in their work. The College provides students with a myriad of opportunities for engagement in research and service through projects and initiatives in the College.
